Photos: Munich to Zurich

May 16, 2008.

It's time to leave Munich behind... which is sad, it was a very enjoyable stay, good food, excellent company, great sites, supurb weather... did I mention good food? The night before, I check the "spreadsheet of knowledge" to make sure I have the right train time, set my alarm, and as I'm waiting for sleep to overtake me, I think... maybe I should look on my actual ticket to double check the time... but the lights are off, and I don't want to disturb the darkness with my paranoia. I should learn to listen to my paranoia. Not only had I looked at the wrong line of the spreadsheet, the correct line had the wrong time anyway... off by an hour too late. As it happened, I arrived at the train station 20 minutes too late. It took a minute or two to realize that I wasn't misreading the board... since I couldn't find any trains for Zurich. Alas, it cost me 5 euro to get my ticket adjusted and new seat assignments... not too bad, other than I would arrive 4 hours later than I otherwise would have. Lesson learned.

I'm not even sure where I was at, but the lake was beautiful
Another lake along the way. They seemed to have lots of them here, not too far from the mountains. This picture I believe was before I made my 2nd mistake of the journey. It was soon after this lake that I saw the sign marking one of the stations where I was supposed to switch trains. However, this station was for the suburb. Typically (from my limited training experience), the suburban station's signs typically have the suburb or station name large, and the larger town name small. This particular place was not like that. Now, I wasn't the only fool to make this mistake, and in the process of losing 20 minutes, I made friends with a gentleman from South Africa, so it wasn't a total loss.
