Photos: Rome

May 24, 2008.

Here's the step-by-step for this day, starting off from the Villa near Poggibonsi:
  1. drive to Florence.
  2. drop off Anthony & Casey.
  3. return the cardrive in circles looking for the car rental place.
  4. return the car.
  5. get to the Train Station.
  6. go to Rome.
  7. check in to B&B.
  8. tour the Vatican.

Ok, so all of these pictures are at the vatican... thats pretty much all we did today of note... other than when we stumbled on (after quite a search) a good place for dinner, and the chef had lived in LA for some time running a restaurant there too.
Mom, Bob and Max... pointing at something.
Our (absolutly terrible) tour guide told us this thing that looked like a bath tub was really a coffin.
They don't make 'em like they used to that's for sure.
The marble this basin is made out of is extinct... in that, it has all been quarried.
Swiss guards!
Inside St. Peter's Basilica. The pictures make it lok smaller than it really is.
he Pietra, one of Michelangelo's finest sculptures. Interesting to note how young Mary is, she obviously would not have been that young at the time of Jesus death... one has to wonder what significance Michelangelo intended by this.
More of the inside. Here you can get a litle better idea for the size... just look at how tiny the people are.
Death, carrying an hour glass... your time is coming!
The tomb of Fabio Chigi, Pope Alexander VII (and Death again...)
Big.
Outside, it's setup for Sunday Mass.
Sea of chairs.
The dome (which sadly we didn't take the time to go up), from St. Peter's Square.
