Photos: Marc & Hanna's Mexico Wedding

2004-04-24

I've known Marc for several years from church, he's our regular drummer at the contemporary service, and when I received the invite to go to a wedding on the beach it was awefully hard to pass up. Hanna's family owns 2.5 miles of beach front property in Santo Tomás, Mexico - an hour and a half south of Rocky Point (Puerto Peñasco). Being as this is where Marc proprosed to Hanna, and the land has been in Hanna's family for 4 generations, it seemed like the appropriate place for the wedding. I went down with the Rogers' and the Burke's from church, and we all camped near the beach (next to the sand dunes in the leveled off parking area) because the beach was so flat the tide came in very far.

This is the very flat beach leading up to the club house. The ceremony took place up next to the club house.

Saturday morning Hanna's relatives hooked us up with a boat ride out to Bird Island, to see the birds and sea lions. Here you can see Cheryl, Steve, TJ, Joy, and Ming-Hui - as well as our chauffeur.

Here's Paul, sportin his hat to keep the sunburn away.

Steve & TJ, enjoying the ride. See how flat that water is? Made for a very smooth ride considering we're in the gulf.

This is bird island. Can you guess why it is called "Bird" island? I'll give you one hint, it has to do with the color of the rocks.

Our sister ship, with the cute little mexican boy and his father standing on the bow.

The folks from the other boat got out and swam with the sea lions. Some of the sea lions were pretty curious and swam towards the people, but eventually one of the two parties got scared and went the other way.

Katy & Joy tried to approach a sea lion, but they weren't quite able to catch up to one before it got scared and turned away.

Dolphins. And Dolphins. And more Dolphins Here you see how close the dolphins got to the boats, almost within arm's reach.

This was the view straight down from the side of the boat. I count at least 4 dolphins in this shot. To say we saw a lot of dolphins is a severe understatement.

Katy and Cheryl took the hourses out for a walk on the beach.

It's finally time. The crowd has gathered. I didn't mean to have my camera in Sepia mode, but this image turned out pretty good nonetheless.

Photos had to be before the wedding because the sun was setting as the wedding concluded.

I didn't get very many shots of the wedding in progress as I was turned into a sheet music stand (I was back behind holding the music for Steve to play the keyboard) which proved to be a difficult task given the sea breeze, but we made it.

And here's Marc & Hanna with the sun setting.

And a beautiful sunset to end a beautiful day.
