Photos: Grand Canyon

June 12th, 2005

Ok, ok, we've all seen pictures of the Grand Canyon. So, I have a few more to show you. We started our journey from Sedona, driving through oak creek canyon (remember all those floods in Arizona last Jan/Feb?) to the south rim of the canyon, and then took the road around (way way around) to the north rim, crosing over the mighty Colorado River. Now, on to the pictures...

Mount Humphrey, in Flagstaff - the tallest point in Arizona. Looks like there might be a little snow leftover yet. Remember... this is June!

Our first view of the canyon.

And the water at the bottom... Notice the very green color.

Mom, enjoying the view (and posing for a picture)

Me, right up on the edge. Good thing there wasn't a strong wind.

The drive around to the North Rim.

Can you guess what this is? Yup, part of the canyon before the grand canyon.

The bridge over the Colorado river. This bridge was completed on September 14, 1995. It was built to replace the Navajo Bridge (which is where I'm standing to take this pictures), which was completed on June 14th, 1929 (bu the Kansas City Structural Steel Company). The original bridge was 834 feet long, the new bridge 909 feet, about 470 feet above the river.

The drive down towards the North Rim.

A view in between some rocks, from the north rim.

I'm still impressed at how many plants try to grow out of these rocks.

The spot to watch the sunset. Just don't take a wrong step!

The lodge at the north rim. Perhaps "on the north rim" would be more appropriate.

Kaibab lodge, just a few miles north of the rim. Not a bad place to stay, but the rooms aren't much.
