As promised, here's a summary of my Thanksgiving activities this year (I'll try to keep it shortish). My parents came into town on Monday, and I met up with them after work on Tuesday to show them where I work (at least, the parking lot - no visitors inside), and Al's house now that it's furnished. We had Classic Italian Pizza in Tempe with my brother. Thursday involved some mild hiking around my brother's house, and then to Dave and Cindy's (Anthony's Aunt & Uncle) in Scottsdale for dinner around 2pm. There were 14 of us this year, as Anthony's Fiance's parents were in town from Oklahoma - nice folks. We payed croquet in the yard afterwards, and sat around the pool doing some brain teasers and whatnot. I got both of them before everyone else - Yea for the engineer beating all the accountants! After dinner we came back to my place to watch The Italian Job - so I got to show off my new TV, and Al's always awesome stereo.
Now's where the fun begins, Friday we spent hanging can lighting in my brother's newly remodeled kitchen. We put in 8 can lights - 4 over the island and 4 around the edges over the counters. I convinced them to go with florescent lights for the flood lights, but they paid too much for them - oh well. The project took all afternoon, and we ran into just a few snags. Good thing I was there, the stupid instructions my Dad found online showed wiring the lights in series, which we all know from our high school physics class is not a very good idea for many reasons. Saturday we spent the morning driving aroud Payson looking at houses - my brother wants a vacation house up there where it's cooler, and he's trying to convince my folks and me to go in on the deal with him. In the afternoon, I picked up Andy from the airport and then went to help hang a couple more lights over the cooktop (also on the island). I got to have fun crawling around the attic, as my brother was pretty tired and sore from the day before. Luckily we only ran into one snag in this process, a board was in our way so we had to cut an electrical box to fit around it.
Today I went to church to run powerpoint, then met up with my parents for lunch at YC's Mongolian BBQ, which is always good stuff. Did some investigating around the rental property, and then took my Dad to the airport. My mom decided to stay for another week. She claims her reason is to help my brother more around the house, but we all know she just likes the weather :). Anyway, that's all the excitement I've had, hope all you reading this had good ones too. I'm going to my pastor's house to check out a bible study there tonight.
