I think I'm usually one of the easiest people in the world to get ahold of. I basically always have my mobile phone with me, if you email me I (usually) instantly know it, I'm on IM well more than any sane person would be, and I leave myself connected at night and when I'm at work. However, this weekend I have become unconnected with the real world. Actually, it started sometime last week. I stopped receiving emails, but, I didn't really notice. Then, on sat. night I left my phone at Katie & Peggy's after watching a movie there (Lion King - yes, I'd never seen it, yes I know this is surprising to the vast majority of people). It fell out of my pocket into the couch. I should be getting that back tomorrow at work, so long as Mark remembers it. My mom tried to call a bunch, and I was going to call my grandparents, but that's about all.

But that leaves this more difficult problem of email. My email that goes to Typhoon. Clearly the server has been up and running, and the router and internet connection have been good. After some testing, I finally determined that cox was blocking port 25 - the port which email travels merrily around the Internet on. I try to do an online chat deal with the cox people, but they're most unhelpful, not even being able to suggest a service plan that I could use. So, I break down and set up my email to forward off to my other mail box, which will have to work for now. However, at the same time I took note of Cox's AUP, which now says that they don't want customers to run servers. This could be a problem. I don't want to give up my baby, but I can't have them telling me what I can and can't do. So, I'm going to look into my alternatives. There's basically three options - get a different internet connection (DSL), or co-locate the server, or keep it as is and don't do email, and to see what cox does next. DSL is fairly unlikely, since DSL options in phoenix are *slow*. For now, my email is operational again, and I recovered all sent messages (I think).
