2003.02.07 @ 02:46:50 Cold Arizona

Perhaps that line could read "Cold For Arizona", but it's more humerous this way. Today was bad, the mercury didn't even get into the 70's. I had to wear long sleeves all day long!

So I'm from Kansas, I like to talk about the weather... a topic of conversation most anybody can participate in. However, there's not so much that can be said about it. So, we'll talk about other things. First off, today. Today was one of those great/boring days. I woke up early, had lots of time, did my personal bible study before class with plenty of time to spare. During lunch I stopped by to see the comedy show at the union stage for a bit, always entertaining. In my next class I was IMing with Jenny, and we arranged to go to the dealership during my extended dinner break to talk to the service department about repairs on her car. We stopped by Wendy's on the way back, and I was 5 or so minutes late getting to my last class. However, the class started with teacher evaluations, so I didn't miss anything at all. Also, several others came in after me, so I didn't feel too bad.

The bad: Classes were fairly boring. My first class wasn't bad, we had some interactive learning stuff. My next class we had some PHD student come in and try to talk to us about some assignment we were supposed to do as part of the class, but he was heading it up. The whole class was clueless as to what he wanted us to do. Note to all teachers: Assignments should have a clear and unambiguous set of requirements. It's not the student's jobs to figure out the assignment, it's the student's job to do the assignment. I'm rather dissappointed in that professor for not making sure this PHD student was on top of things. Oh, to top it off, the assignment which consists of 3 projects is due next Wednesday. We have to use Visual Basic, which 33-50% of the class has never used before. And it's no "intro to VB" assignment either. I await clarification from our real instructor. Next class was my first final of the year 2003. It went ok. Finally, Java. I have to give credit to the Instructor (partially because I gave him a link here once upon a time). But seriously, we covered a fairly technically challenging concept today. Unfortunatly, my very first Java class focused on Servlets & JSPs, and having just worked on this journaling system using those technologies, I didn't learn a whole lot. But hey, can't please everybody right?

Speaking of the journaling system, I have come to a temporary conclusion regarding the commenting system. Don't look for it anytime soon. So far I've found two motivations for putting it in.

  1. Playing more with Java stuff
  2. Coolness of having it
So far, #1 hasn't won out. The coolness deal, well, it's always nice to know people are reading this stuff and whatnot. However, the point of having the journal is primarily convenience - easy and non-intrusive way for me to rant about stuff and have conversations with myself about things. Mostly, I kinda like going back and reading old stuff, old IM logs, old journal entries, etc. It's impossible to measure growth unless you look back to the past every now and then. Anyway, I'm off topic. Suffice to say, if you have something to reply to me in regards to something I post, email me.

Oh, and several people have asked about the whole leaving words out in IM messages (see previous entry). Most everybody I know leaves out occasional words when I IM with them. Especially myself.
