Where Home, KC still

When 9:24 AM

What

What a weird dream. I had two, don't recall the first. But in the 2nd one, my brother was getting married. We had a bunch of people at our house getting ready for the wedding. Except our house was magically transported to Phoenix. We were then going to drive to LA for the wedding. In the midst of all this, who else but the FBI shows up. They are having a confrontation with China regarding nukes. A handful of FBI agents are magically in my room with me. They are talking with china, and the deal is we have a nuke ready to go off in china, where as they will have to shoot a nuke at us. So we seem to have the upper hand. Then, suddenly, these two chinese agents show up at my house, and clinb up to my bedroom window. They conveniently have a nuclear weapon with them also, in a suitcase. Some conversation goes on where the FBI claim to be "better agents" than the chinese pair. The female chinese agent dosn't like this too well, so she activates the nuke to go off in 3 hours. Hrm, my own nuke in my own bedroom, how nice. After that all the agents leave, and I'm stuck with the bomb. Being in Phoenix, which is 5 hours away from the ocean, I determine my best bet is to drive it to the ocean and dump it off there. In my dream I was closer to the ocean than 5 hours, don't ask me how. Since my car was having highway issues, I decide I should drive my brother's car, but not his current car, somehow we had his old MX6 there too. I hunt all around for the keys for it, but can't find it. So I ask my mom and bro, neither of whom are helpful. I find this cookie that is supposed to be the key (it is a dream). But the cookie hadn't been cut into the right shape yet. My mom & brother start eating on the cookie as I continue my frantic search. My dad helps me look. Finally I go into the den, where my mom is outside talking thru the window to an empty room because she believes my dad is in there. She's saying how she thinks I've gone insane (they don't know about the nukes). So I tell her I'm not, and that once I get the key and get on the road I'll stop to explain the whole thing, but that it's very important that i leave as soon as possible. Finally I find the key in the file cabinet with the file on that car. I go back out to the garage where I'm going to have to maneuver the car out becaues of all the people over for the wedding. I decide I should show my family the nuke anyway, so they don't think i'm crazy. At this time I re-evaluate the ocean plan, and decide instead to drive to the middle of the desert instead becaues I wouldn't make it to the ocean. I start putting it all back into the suitcase when some state troopers came (in actuallity it was the noise of the trash men that entered my dream). I then woke up.

In other news, they finally declared the guy who wrote DeCSS not guilty of piracy. This was the first tool that allowed people to decrypt the movies encoded on DVD's. Articles like this one get it wrong, partially. See, any DVD could be copied byte-for-byte, with the proper equipment, and it could then be replayed with any device (standard DVD player) capable of playing the original disc. What DeCSS did was allow people to crack the encryption on the movie so that they could write their own DVD playing software for operating systems like Linux, Solaris, etc... which had no commercially available players. It also allowed for people to take the DVD and encode the movie into a different format, such as MPEG or DiVX, or any other format you could dream of. This re-encoding is what the MPA is so freaked about, becaues people can use encoding schemes such as DiVX to reduce the size of a movie to make it transferable between two computers online. In other words, its just like any other tool, it has it's good uses and it's bad uses.
