So I bought a chainsaw. Last time I trimmed my palm tree I swore that I wouldn't do it again without buying a chainsaw. Just about every time I trim that tree I manage to acquire a new toy of some sort. The first time I did it I borrowed Al's ladder, but I bought a pole saw. The next time I bought my own gorilla little-giant wanna be ladder (which is awsome by the way), but I got the largest size one they had, which is a few feet longer than Al's. This time I bought the chainsaw. I opted for an electric saw, figuring I wouldn't use it enough to warrant maintaining the gas engine. I was concerned that it wouldn't be powerful enough, as palm wood is not the easiest to cut... it's very stringy. So now I'm pretty much set... except, it won't be long before my ladder is too short to reach to the top of the tree. I suppose I'd have to break down and buy an extension ladder then, but that seems pretty silly since I don't have any other use for an extension ladder.
This tree trimming was prompted more than anything by the very low hanging seeded branches. You see, the type of palm tree I have has two types of branches... those with palm leaves, and those with masses and masses of seeds. I think that God designed palm trees to survive a nuclear holocost, with how many seeds they grow each year. Anyway, they were getting to the point where the tree might actually drop them on its own, so I knew it was past time to get them cut. In short, I filled my 30 gallon trash can full of just the seeds 4 times. Seriously, God, why? I don't understand. And a trash can full of those things is freakin heavy. At least I was smart his year and kept them from getting into the yard... last time i swore i had a new variety of very thick bladed grass growing, but no, just lots of baby palm trees.
