Sound. One doesn't give it much thought usually. To be able to hear things clearly. Its really taken for granted. But boy, do you notice it when it isn't right. Too loud, quiet, or scratchy, a hum that sounds like a factory, extreme reverberberberation, etc.
To a sound guy, if you can get past all these things, then you can pretty much be assured that at least nobody will complain. Now you do all that, and if you're quick on the mute button so that people don't get that "microphone pickup boominess", and people probably won't even realize that you're around.
When it comes right down to it, there's a whole heckuva lot of copper involved with any sizable setup. Like normal, for Easter/Christmas we have church service in the gym (err, family life center). Now a normal person would say: "now that you have it setup the way you want... take a picture so you can remember how to do it again." This is a person who doesn't understand that its never the same. Equipment breaks. New things are purchased. Singers come and go. Different instruments are needed. Just getting everything plugged in so that the cables are nice and neat, no photo will help with that. I've learned you simply can't ask just anyone for help doing things like that either. I lack the capability to understand people who don't know how to hook things up without wires being tangled and messy. But I digress...
Things are all ready to go for Easter services tomorrow. It's a blessing that we have several folks helping move things and set them up. In 2 hours time last night, and an hour and a half this morning everything was moved over, setup, hooked up, and ready to go. Pretty good considering the scale of things.
Oh, and nevermind the Sunrise Service. It's equally awesome that we have member of a church who are traveling musicians and they have all the necessary portable gear to setup for an outdoor service! That means I don't have to worry about rounding up half-broken equipment and figuring out if it can be made to work.
I have but two words: Wow.
