2007.10.07 @ 03:11:36 I'm defensified, and my car is... um, having new speakers.

Fun day... I slept thru my alarm clock, but still woke up at 7:00. My Defensive Driving class (for rolling thru the stop sign in my neighborhood) was scheduled to start at 7:30. My plan was to wake up at 6:30, get ready, stop by the grocery store and pick up some power bars and get to the class with plenty of time to spare. As it turned out, I arrived right at 7:30 (Chandler Mall is always closer than it seems). And then I find out the real class doesn't start until 8:30. In fact, they don't really do anything until 8:00 when they start registration. And by they, I mean the instructor (singular). So that takes the whole half hour. Brilliant. Note to self: if I ever have to do it again, ask them what time the class *really* starts.

I can't really complain, the instructor had decent stories, and kept it rather lively. He didn't, however, do any of the interactive stuff he claimed he was going to do. He was also very good at pointing out problems, and very bad at describing solutions. His description on how to adjust your mirrors properly was passable. But in general, really good at describing problems (as shown by studies), really bad at describing what people should have done instead. Oh well, I already know. No, really, I do. In fact, I usually do it too. Like, going to the next exit and turning around instead of rushing into the exit lane at the las possible moment. Anyway.

The class was over by 1:15ish, and after some Chipotle, I spent the afternoon replacing the speakers in my car. A few clips broken (always happens), but they're in place. The rear speakers were a snap. The front's, not so much... figuring out how to attach the speakers to the supplied brackets wasn't trivial. It wasn't really *that* hard, but I was assuming it'd be more obvious, so I kept trying to figure out how they meant for it to work, instead of figuring out how I could *make* it work. Which is what I ended up doing in the end. I have clean treble now, which is nice. The bass is still good, perhaps not as plentiful as before but definitely cleaner. Sometimes that can play tricks on your ears (or my ears), when the bass is clean and tight, it sounds like there's less. I'll take the quality. Now, if only there was a spot in the mini for a subwoofer. Oh well, I'll save my money (and what little space is left in the car).
