Thats about what it feels like when crawling in my attic... at least when you get to the end and there's no way around laying directly on top of the insulation in order to get anywhere. The worst part was my idea that I could somehow drill a hole in the board outside to feed the new wires (for the new server closet), and somehow magically be able to reach the cables once i was in the attic. See, roofs slope down... my roof slopes down to the point where it meets the edge of the vertical wall of the house, everywhere on the house. This means I have to manage to shove enough wire in that i can fit into that small wedge, so i can reach out and grab the wires and still have enough room for me, the insulation, and the nails which are coming out of the underside of the roof. There's blown insulation in most of my attic, but not once you get close to the edges... no, no, then all that's there is the 38 year old fiber glass covered in thin paper that disintegrates as soon as you touch it. Lovely. So here I am, laying mostly on top of the blown insulation, at least up to my waist... and the rest of me carefully laying on the paper, with my head turned sideways so as to avoid hitting the nails poking down out of the roof, inching myself to the point where i barely can even fit so that i can reach my hand out and somehow... I think i believe in miracles more today than ever before... I'm almost positive that God reached down and put those wires in my hand, because, it sure didn't seem like i was going to be close enough.
So, Typhoon has now a new home in the closet - thanks to the new phone line run for the DSL. I also pulled coax in the event I ever switch to a cable modem. It's a good location for a 'server closet' as far as a central location in the house that's big enough to house a router and modem and network switch, and not too hard to get to in the attic for dropping cat5. Speaking of which, next weekend (or possibly sooner) will be running the wire for the front room's network.
