2008.03.19 @ 01:07:13 Another example: how not to wire things

For various reasons, and mostly because it was going to come down on its own eventually... I decided to take down the drywall from my back patio ceiling. I discovered a couple of interesting things... the most stupid being, well, let me just show you...

I think that pretty much speaks for itself. But in case it doesn't... wiring connection, by code, must be made in a box! If there happened to be a leak in the roof, water could get into these connections and cause either a short, or the wires to corrode and the connections to break. Probably a ton of other reasons too, I'm not an electrician... but I know one, so I'm going to ask him what he'd suggest to fix this mess. I suspect what I'll end up doing is branching off a completely different circuit, which is what should have been done in the first place. *sigh*

In other news, the annual youth-group lockin was last Friday, so I stayed up all night, and slept a good part of the day on Saturday. I'm back to normal sleep schedule thou, which is good. Andrew (Tim's bro), flew down Monday morning to pickup Tim's old car, now Andrew's car, and drove back to Nebraska... stopping in GC at my mom's house, since it's right along the route... about 2/3rds of the way in between - so it works. And for anyone wondering, he made it back a-o.k. I had freshened up the car (oil change, washed, rotated the tires, topped up the fluids...) so it was in good shape... apparently other than the windshield wipers... not a surprise considering arizona sun destroys them.
