2008.12.14 @ 11:52:45 fog lights

I was thinking about this the other day, but didn't post it then... so I'll post it now. One of my new(er) pet peeves is people who drive around town with their fog lights on when there isn't even the slightest hint of fog. "what's the big deal with that?" you might ask. First there is the ever so slight extra load put on the alternator resulting in a virtually unnoticeable drop in fuel economy... but, that's not really it. Second, they're called "fog lights" not "turn them on all the time lights." But Third, and most importantly, they're designed to help you see in fog... and by the nature of that design, properly aimed fog lights are actually a hindrance in good conditions. Perhaps even slightly worse than that, many people don't understand how fog lights are supposed to work, and have theirs improperly aimed slightly up - straight into my mirrors, reflecting into my eyes. "but the lights are so low on the car, they should be able to be aimed slightly up!"
