2010.10.25 @ 01:38:04 And we're home...

We just got back from our Arizona trip (about 2.5 hours ago). We had the joy of a screaming baby the last ~3 hours of the trip. He was well fed and dry, just not happy to be stuck in the car seat. I don't blame him, you can't even see out the windows! It was close to unbearable, but we made it. It was a lot of driving, we started the morning in Payson and drove to Tempe for church. Sandy watched Adam during the entire church service for us (woohoo!), and after a long stop at Dilly's Deli (food for Adam and food for us - mmmm foccacia bread) we hit the road to LA. It's a boring drive, but there was one thing I noticed: people texting while driving. Twice someone pulled in front of me after passing to slow down 10mph. I passed again to watch them texting away. Seriously folks, it can wait a few hours.

I also realized something (else) that I really like about the highways in Arizona - or specifically in/around Phoenix. Those concrete barriers that separate one side from the other? They're much taller in Phoenix than most of LA, so you're not staring into the headlights of the oncoming traffic so much. After a long day of driving, that last hour of driving through southern California sprawl in relatively heavy traffic is just made that much worse.

We're moving Adam to his "own" room tonight (still a guest room, we'll find another place for Adam if you want to come stay). We're also going to try to start detaching him from his need for attention in order to fall asleep.

We realized that at 3 months, Adam has already been to 3 different states - 4 if you count the airport in Chicago! Indiana, Arizona, California.
