2011.02.15 @ 01:09:57 Ears can cry

First off, a quick shout out to all the single people, hang in there, Single's Awareness Day 2011 is almost over.

Last night I was feeding Adam (he was being particularly difficult, but that's not important) when I noticed what looked like a tear drop on his ear. I was a little confused, and began investigating to determine where this clear looking drop of liquid came from. To back up, Adam had been sick with a runny nose and a fever for a few days, which put him in generally a worse mood than normal, although not all the time. While I was feeding him was one of those times, he's always upset when we strap him into the high chair, but usually once the food comes he calms down. He didn't calm down. So he had been severely fussing, and he did even have a few tears, but they did not venture towards the ears but fell alongside the nose. It was then that I noticed the yellow and white waxy and pussy looking substance in his ear, above where the ear-tear was dangling. Time to call the doctor.

I beckoned the wife to come take a look at the ear-tear. She decided that her philosophy education wasn't suited for this situation and opted to call the medical doctor. Or, in reality, she called the nurse hotline since that's who you get to call on Sunday evening if you want to make an appointment for Monday. They of course wanted us to go to the ER which we refused (darn lawyers, make everything so difficult). And to summarize, Kristen took him in the morning and the doc confirmed that his ear was infected, but he couldn't really tell if there was any other damage, gave us some anti-bacterial drops to help clean things out and schedule a follow-up for Friday so he could get a better look.
