I don't like the phone much. I'm not afraid of it, it's a great tool, but for some reason I just don't much care for it. As such, I typicall don't answer calls on my cell phone that are from an "Unknown ID", or from a state where I don't know anybody (florida and nevada are popular ones). Apparently I haven't been getting voicemail notifications from some of these calls. Today I checked my voicemail and there were 7 such calls, all from out-of-state phone numbers, from the past 10 days. *ALL* of these calls were political in nature, trying to persuade me to vote for so and so or vote yes or no on such and such. I didn't listen to them, as their recordings aren't smart enough to know when voicemail answers vs. a real preson, so they all start 30 seconds into their spiel. Now I'm not sure, but I thought that there were some laws about this... anybody know?
The National Do Not Call Registry does not include political calls -- politicians have to get re-elected, after all (just to clarify, that is, indeed, sarcasm). I know that pollsters are not supposed to call your cell. Electioneering calls go out to whatever number you registered with. If they knew it was a cell, they might not call it, though. I've received a few similar messages on my answering machine, but occassionally, they actually have a human operator that cues it after the beep (in which case, my answering machine almost always cuts them off before they finish).
The do not call registry includes cell phones. I've not gotten any political messages on my cell phone and I'm on the dnc registry. I don't know if it includes political messages.
