Went to the beach last Thursday afternoon. I was ahead in my hours for work, so had the time to go relax a bit. I went by myself and headed over to Manhattan beach. Started at LAX and drove down the coast until I found a spot to park for free. I figured the first thing to do was to check out the pier. To one side was what I would call the "family swim area", lots of families with young children:

To the other side were a few surfers and much less people. In the interest of my ears I headed down that side of the beach and found a place to relax for a while. One dude, probably about 40 years old and rather large seemed to enjoy swimming for a bit and then plopping down in the sand like a beached whale, repeating this several times during the hour or so that I was there. Another couple showed up and after a while broke out the Frisbee and attempted to toss it back and forth. The young lady needed some instruction, it's all in the wrist.... her tosses were always very angled and did a find job of catching the wind. Poor fellow got quite a good workout from the deal, and made me tired just watching!

I took the wrong way home, it ended up taking close to an hour instead of the 45 min to get there. Thankfully I left at 3:30, I don't want to imagine how bad it could've been

I'm determined to not become one of those people who leaves near to the beach but never goes! It doesn't need to be a regular habit, but at least go now and then to learn the lay of the land.
