I finally broke down and installed Windows 2000 on our media computer (vs. Mandrake GNU/Linux). I was tired of fighting with X to get it to output at 1280x720. Unfortunatly for Linux, Windows picked up this resolution without any effort whatsover. That, and driver support for the audio is better - happy fun optical output works. This is yet another case where Microsoft desktop monopoly made it such that manufacturers simply don't give other operating systems due justice with hardware support.

So anyway, this means watching movies and such from the computer will now be possible without things getting out of aspect ratio. Very nice since effectively it'll mean that DVD playing will be like a progressive scan player.
