This past weekend was painting weekend - round 1, otherwise known as "the ceilings". I learned a few thigns. First, I was painting the ceilings because they looked dirty. However, there was obviously dust and stuff hanging from the popcorn. So I figured I should try to get that off first before painting. So, I had the bright idea of using my gas powered leaf blower to accomplish the task. Now, if I had an electric one I clearly would've used that given the indoor nature of the task, however that was not an option at the time. To my amazement, it actually worked really well. Not too many fumes in the house, I just left the windows open overnight and things were fine.

I borrowed an airless paint sprayer from a friend at work, and after reading the PDF manual online for it, and practicing hooking it up with just a bucket of water, I went to town. Of course I did the necessary masking off first, but since I'm going to repaint the walls anyway, I was able to be pretty sloppy. I did learn that the tip of the sprayer gets clogged somewhat regularly, so I should've read those instructions closely before I started. I had to stop and clean up enough to re-read that section, and then it made sense and I was on my way again. Oh, the other thing I learned is that goggles are important for painting overhead, and that you shouldn't use a razer blade to clean off the paint chips on plastic goggles. It scratches and makes it very hard to see. But I was able to finish things off, and the ceilings look almost like new. I'm pleased.

Random question, what do you think of 3/4 length "shorts" for guys? Beside the fact that I think they should be called 3/4 length pants, or just call them crop pants like you do for the ladies.
