I think there's something wrong with me. I went to the Arizona MVD today to get the new car registered. First they do the "inspection", all they really do is verify the VIN and have you sign that the lights/horn, etc. are all working. They fill out a form and have you go inside where you wait for 30-45 minutes. After 20 minutes I looked at the form they had done outside and realized they would need my old license plates, so I went to get those off the car. I wanted to keep them for my collection... we'll see what I can do when I go back in.

After finally being called up to the counter, the first question from the guy was if the other two people on the title were here. Apparently in Arizona, no matter how the title reads (i.e. and's, or's, or and/or's between people's names) they require everybody to sign for themselves. Well, my parents are in Kansas, so that wasn't going to happen... at least not today. I wait another 10 minutes for the manager's to finish their meeting, she comes out and explains to me the difference between and, or, and and/or. In Arizona, I see no difference between 'and' and 'and/or'. I wanted it titled with or's between my name & my parent's names. This way, if something happens to me the car doesn't sit in probate forever. Anywho, They issue me a 90 day tag, and get the form all ready to be mailed to Kansas for my parents to sign and mail back. The guy helping me used the one-finger keyboarding technique, and was just generally exctremely slow at every single thing that he did. He was thorough, I'll give him that much. About 40 minutes after going up to the counter I was out the door with the temporary tag in hand. Ironically, the tag will be good until June 9th, so if I wait until then I'll even be living at a different address (unless something really weird happens between now and then). I did have the thought that I could wait until then, and I might even be in a different state working, however many other states (such as KS) would require me to pay sales tax, where AZ doesn't - so I'd actually save money by registering it in AZ and then transfering it to KS. Go figure.

Ok, so by now the VIN has been written down 6 or 7 times - as well as various other information found on the Texas title to the vehicle, along with my name, dob, and other misc. information found on my drivers license. When I started this post with "there must be something wrong with me" it was because every time they hand wrote something down I as thinking "it'd be nice if their computer system did this for them". "They could save a lot of time and money if this was automated." "They should put bar codes on these to speed things up." Etc. Etc. Etc. Save me now.
