2003.04.05 @ 21:07:44 Midterm Mayhem

This week/weekend has kinda sucked. We'll start off with the meetings. I have four group projects going on all at the same time. All of which needed to meet sometime this weekend (where weekend starts thursday, since classes are mon-wed). I've had two already, both went well. Two more are on tap tomorrow, starting at 10am. I'm not happy at all with that time, and only half our group can make it since 2 of the guys are Mormon which makes Sunday off limits. That meeting has to take place with another group, and they weren't able to meet any other time. Go figure. Besides the meetings, I have two midterms next week and another the following week. Happy fun!

Besides that junk, There's absolutely no new news on the job hunt.

Last night was fun, I got to play with my new camera and hang out with some fun peoples. We talked about things most people would consider nerdy, but we had fun, which is the most important part.

My brother called me this morning before I left for my meetings. His computer won't boot. It just sits there after it POSTs. He thinks the hard drive is dead. After my meetings, which went faster than normal, I called him up since I had an opening to go look at it. He was out getting furniture. I started some homework and helped Tim with his home project of making a remote-control java-based MP3 player. It should be pretty cool when it's done. My bro calls me back when he gets home. I gather up a few boot disks and my new camera and get ready to go. I get to my car, start driving and it feels like the parking brake is on. I check it, nope. Maybe it's my imagination. No, no, the car is pulling to the left too. I pull into another parking spot 40 feet from where I started and get out to examine the vehicle. Unfortunately, my intuition was right. The driver's front tire is flat. Why I didn't notice that before, dunno. I go back into the apt to get the tire pump, 'cause I've heard that sometimes if it's sitting wrong there's a chance that the seal around the rim is broken just enough to leak out, and there might not be anything wrong. So I air up the tire, which takes quite a bit of time. I check the other tires while I'm at it. After the flat tire is no-longer flat and at the appropriate level, I go ahead and air the other's up, buying time to make sure the bad tire is going to hold air. All other tires aired up, the bad tire has already lost a pound and a half of air. That won't work, it must've gotten a puncture which means that if I were to drive it on the highway the likelihood of a blowout is 1000 times more likely than normal. Not my idea if fun. So instead, now at least 30 minutes after I originally intended to leave, I go over to my backup car which has yet to sell. I guess my bro won't see the new car today. The rest of the trip was fun. The 51 is closed from I-10 to Thomas. I manage to wind thru the side streets and avoid the long 1/4 mile backup at stoplights. Basically I got lucky.

So the computer problem, basically the hard drive is fine, but the master boot record is messed up. Probably a virus. Of course, I didn't bring along anything to fix that, 'cause I was figuring it was a hardware problem. Oh well, a problem for another day. I did however get my birthday present, a nice shirt. Gotta love having a brother who actually knows something about fashion. Also borrowed a couple books for my courses. Did a little mild hiking and took some pics of downtown, good view from there, then headed home.
